Today, I’m sharing something with you that is near and dear to my heart — and no, this time it’s not Facebook ads! I’m talking about how attending ONE conference changed my life and my business completely.

I know it may sound overly dramatic, but I am not exaggerating at all!

It started in 2016 when I went to FinCon, a conference where money and media meet. It involves bloggers, podcasters, marketers, and YouTubers.

At that time, I was not a Facebook Ads Coach — I was a personal finance blogger representing my debt freedom blog, Our Debt Free Family. I was at a total crossroads in my business and was contemplating which direction I wanted my business to go in next.

How FinCon Changed My Life and Business

On the last day of the conference, I was lucky to have been paired with Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche for a mentoring session. She encouraged me to follow my path in what I am passionate about and can stick with for the long term.

Later, I met up with Leisa Peterson on the dance floor (FinConners LOVE to party and dance the night away!), and she basically told how there was a big change coming to my life. These two conversations, along with a few others, gave me the confidence I needed to start my new Facebook ads business!

Fast forward to 2017 and not only am I going to FinCon, but I am also excited to have my first official speaking engagement where I will have my own session talking about Facebook ads! This will be on Thursday, October 26th at 2:00 pm CST. (And yes, I’m planning to stream the whole thing on Facebook if the tech works out!)

I am looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and hopefully make some new ones too. Who knows, this may be another life-changing week as well!

Takeaways for Attending Conferences

My top tips for making the most of your conference networking experience:

• Prepare ahead of time, make sure to get lots of sleep! (15:09)
• Bring practical items like throat lozenges and eye drops. There will be a lot of talking going on! (15:55)
• Make a mental list of people that you want to introduce yourself to. (16:43) Make connections without ulterior motives!
• Look at the conference schedule and choose what sessions you want to attend, knowing that you may not make them all! Check to see if you conference includes a virtual pass with recordings of each session to catch later. (17:58)
• It’s okay to take breaks to refuel, refresh, and escape the chaos. (19:14)
